About Constituency

Shobha Karandlaje represents this picturesque parliamentary constituency of Udupi-Chikmagalur in Karnataka, since 2014.

This constituency consists of two of the arguably most beautiful districts of Karnataka, known particularly for their natural appeal. While one has its flair with rains and greenery, the other is a coastal land nurturing intense spirituality.

The Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency was created in 2008 based on the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission of India constituted in 2002. Bharatiya Janata Party continues to represent the seat since its creation, while Shobha Karandlaje is the longest-serving MP of the constituency.

Udupi

The world-famous Udupi Shree Krishna temple makes this small but prominent ecstatically captivating. This coastal district, alongside Daksha Kannada, uniquely has a number of dialects that is native to the place such as Tulu, Konkani, Nawayathi, and Beary. The cultural diversity of Udupi combined with spiritual practices and native sports make it a highly colorful district.


Chikmaglur

One of the most sought after trekking spots of Karnataka, Chikmagalur is a nature lover’s paradise. It extends over an area of 30 km2 and fosters a small population of 118,401. Also, popularly known as the ‘Coffee Land of Karnataka,' Chikmagalur produces world-class coffee, which makes for a prominent agricultural occupation here. Most visitors to Chikmagalur arrive here to experience the sheer pleasure of a road trip within this district combined with Chikmagalur coffee.

Tourism and coffee are the two most prominent prospects of Chikmagalur. The district has thrived under the leadership of Shobha Karandlaje.
